Massa Vecchia
🍷 Massa Vecchia: Tuscan Natural Wine Rooted in Radical Agriculture and Living Poetry
Located in Massa Marittima, in the Upper Maremma of Tuscany, Massa Vecchia is a pioneering natural wine estate in Italy. Founded in the 1980s by Fabrizio Niccolaini, a former scientist turned winemaker, the domaine is now run by Francesca Sfondrini and her team. With about 5 hectares of certified organic vines surrounded by olive trees, forests, and meadows, the estate practices holistic agriculture inspired by biodynamics and permaculture. Winemaking is radically natural: no added yeasts, no temperature control, no filtration or sulfites. Wines are aged in old oak, resin tanks, steel, or amphorae. Each cuvée is a living, expressive organism.
