🍷 Patrick Bouju – Domaine La Bohème: Natural Wine from Auvergne Rooted in Volcanoes, Intuition, and Freedom

Based in Saint-Georges-sur-Allier in the heart of Auvergne, Patrick Bouju is a leading figure in the revival of natural winemaking in this once-overlooked region. After a career in IT, he founded Domaine La Bohème in 2003, drawn by the volcanic soils of the Puy-de-Dôme. He farms about 5 hectares of old vines (some over 100 years old) on basalt, granite, and sandy soils, using organic methods. His winemaking is fully natural: native yeasts, no fining, no filtration, and no added sulfites. His cuvées—often made from rare or forgotten grapes like Gamay d’Auvergne and Mirefleurien—are juicy, deep, vibrant, and full of personality.
